Sexual Abuse Statistics

Statistics: Sexual abuse affects millions of Americans. Every 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted. Younger people are at the highest risk of sexual violence. Ages 12-34 are the highest risk years for rape and sexual assault. Those age 65 and older are 92% less likely than 12-24 year olds to be a victim of rape or sexual assault, and 83% less likely than 25-49 year olds. 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime. As of 1998, an estimated 17.7 million American women had been victims of attempted or completed rape.  94% of women who are raped experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) within the first two weeks.
